Bounty Controversy Hits the NFL

In light of the news that broke yesterday of the Saints allegedly offering bounties on players the league will be looking at disciplinary actions.  My question, are you really surprised that a team would offer such rewards for knocking their opponents key players out of the game.  The late Al Davis said it best, “The quarterback must go down and he must go down hard.”  I know the league is preaching safety and their hand is held to the fire but it is pretty funny how most of the media is acting shocked that this went on.  Let’s face it, the Saint defense was average at best even in their Super Bowl season.  Their defense used a bend but don’t break philosophy who aided their offense in winning by creating timely turnovers.   Don;t be surpirsed if more allegations of other teams offering such rewards.  I don’t want to hear that this is on course with Spygate.  The two are completely seperate.  I have read that the league would consider taking the franchise tag away from the Saints for their alleged actions.  That would be a far worse penalty that the Patriots faced for spygate, as the Saints are facing some franchise altering decision with the way they are going handle signing key free agents Drew Brees, Carl Nicks, and Marques Colston.  It appears a decision will be made swiftly as the designation of franchise tags are due early next week.
